Practical Advice for New Moms | HealthyNas

The first days and year of motherhood is full of surprises, sleepless nights, joy, and other feelings. Everybody will give you their opinions on how you should take care of your baby and yourself. There are certain pieces of advice that can make a new mom go crazy and you’ll find it difficult to decide on the ones to take and the ones you should ignore.

One among the greatest advice for new moms is that you should enjoy every moment of your motherhood. Moms have a tendency to forget to enjoy their motherhood after giving birth to a new baby. All the attention is usually diverted to the baby and you might not have time to enjoy your new life. You need to slow down and just embrace it all. The baby will be young for just a period of time. Remember to take lots of videos and pictures since kids grow very fast.

New moms are also advised to trust in their inner guts. You should do what you feel is right for your baby. People will always give you advice on what you have to do and this may confuse you in one way or another, making you to do wrong things. You need to do what you feel is right and not what other people tell you is right. It isn’t wrong to ask for opinions from others but these are just opinions, not facts. Always trust in your maternal instincts.

New moms should always expect and be ready for times when they’ll feel terrified, tired, overwhelmed and challenged by the responsibilities. On other days you may feel love, peace, and lots of joy. This is very normal during these times since you are living another life that you were not used to.

New moms should also make time for themselves, although most of them believe that they don’t need that time. You need some head space because you might be under stress and not realize it because you’re always busy. You may regret later why you didn’t give yourself time because every single person needs some time for themselves.

New moms should also accept as much help as is offered. Even though you may think that no one else can take care of your baby better than you do, it is very important for the baby’s dad to form a bond with the newborn, too. Give the dad some time alone with the child for diaper changes, feedings, and playtime. Odds are that his ways of doing things may be different from yours, but that doesn’t make them wrong.

They are simply different. Take pleasure in receiving the help you need and go take a nap.

Lastly, you should also consider joining support groups where you’ll meet with other new moms. These groups help new moms to interact and benefit from shared experiences. You’ll also get advice from the group facilitator who should be a professional.
